Where to stay in Paris

Updated: Apr 16, 2022

Romantic, chic, iconic – Paris is many things. It’s also huge. The French capital is surprisingly large, with famous sights spread out across the Arrondissements. Picking the right base, convenient to what you want to see and do, is key to make sure you don’t become completely overwhelmed when visiting the City of Lights.

For the sights

Base yourself in the 8th arrondissement like Madeleine or l'Europe to wander down the Champ-Élyseés taking in the Arc de Triomphe and Place de la Concorde, eventually leading to Musée Lourve.

Staying in Montparnasse places you conveniently between a variety of Paris’ sights – from the beautiful Jardin du Luxembourg to the city’s ancient Catacombs. If literature is more your thing, you can also retrace the 20th centuries greats like Fitzgerald and Hemingway across the Left Bank.

To soak up culture

Stay in Les Invalides to be conveniently between the Musée Rodin, home to Augustin Rodin's extensive collection, and Musée d'Orsay, France's national collection of impressionist, post impressionist & art nouveau works.

Nearby Notre Dame, try something different and stay on the Île Saint Louis. The famous island is just a five-minute walk from the gothic cathedral - works are still ongoing to repair the damage of the 2019, but it is still an imposing sight.

For some fun

Stay in and around Canal St Martin to be walking distance to the fun and offbeat venues, bars, and restaurants along Boulevard Voltaire and the Oberkampf District.

Head to hilly Montmarte to stay in the popular and arty quarter with its wealth of cocktail bars. Legendary venues like Moulin Rouge are still running and worth catching a glimpse from the outside if you’d prefer to give the crowds inside a miss.
